EDUCATION in Uganda has got a lot of potential for further development. This was revealed by Adam Piggon, one of the four senior teachers from Ferrers Specialist College, England, who are on a five-day visit to Mengo Secondary School. Other members of the team are Sue Pettitt, Jane Wright and Kevin Robinson.

The headmaster, Patrick Bakka, said the visit is under a twinning system organised by the British Council. “It was hatched by the Global Links section of the British Council. September last year, a team of teachers from Mengo SS visited the UK to acquaint themselves with the way Ferrer College is being run,” he explained.

Bakka said one of the expected benefits from the visit was an exchange of ideas about how the two schools could work together for development.

“Our goal is to improve the quality of education through exchanging ideas. We saw these ideas work in the UK and they will work here,” Bakka said.

“We want to see how students at Mengo SS and Uganda in general are involved in the running of their schools,” Piggon said.

Mengo SS has benefited from such partnerships before. They received computers from Minneapolis Friendship Association a few years ago. The team will visit Mengo Primary School, Seeta High School, Kasubi tombs and key tourism attractions in the country.
