A record 300 players have so far registered for the Nomi Open, the calendar opener for Uganda Badminton Association (UBA). Registration ends on Wednesday ahead of the action that starts Friday at Lugogo. UBA’s Simon Mugabi said the big entry has forced them to limit players to only one age category in order to be able to finish in the scheduled three days.

Nkumba gala
NKUMBA University is to award a number of athletes at their annual sports dinner set for next Saturday at Broadway Hotel. Sports tutor Patrick Ssebuliba yesterday said that they felt it convenient to award the athletes who have helped the Nkumba flag fly high.

ITF attracts
FOUR Mombasa-based players are set for the ITF/money circuit Kampala leg at Lugogo starting Tuesday. They will join other Kenyan players who featured in the Burundi leg. Philip Koteng, Nick Wekesa, Juma Changawa and Fazal Khan are in upbeat mood. Kenyan Evelyne Otula won the ladies title in Burundi beating compatriot Caroline Oduor.

UVF crowns
UGANDA Volleyball Federation (UVF) will finally crown 2004 league champions Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) in a ceremony at Premier Club at Lugogo today. The ceremony, which should have been held in December, was delayed after the officials were divided between crowning KAVC or Sport S Volleyball Club.
