KABAKA Ronald Mutebi hailed the relative peace in Uganda as he unveiled the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) foundation stone after 39 years since it was laid by his father, Sir Edward Muteesa II.

The Kabaka vowed to spearhead the massive recruitment of YMCA members, especially the youth, to inculcate a sprit of voluntarism.

Mutebi was made an honorary member of the association and was given instruments of the YMCA mission.

He told a cheering gathering, “You can count on me to undertake the recruitment of young people in YMCA to serve others.”

Mutebi was Saturday afternoon unveiling a foundation stone of the YMCA main building at Wandegeya, which was laid on January 22, 1966.

Soon after the laying of the stone, the political atmosphere in Uganda necessitated the YMCA branch management to cover the stone to protect it and preserve history.

The Kabaka also laid a foundation stone for the new three-storey educational complex, whose ground floor is almost completed. He also closed the annual YMCA recruitment drive that started in August 2004.

In his seven-minute address, the Kabaka hailed the YMCA mission for its spirit of voluntarism and also hailed the 1,550 members.
