Matembe, why fuss about Vagina Monologues?

SIR—Two of Uganda's most outspoken activists for women emanicipation are lawyers.

SIR—Two of Uganda's most outspoken activists for women emanicipation are lawyers.

Dr. Silvia Tamale, the Dean Faculty of Law and Ms Miria Matembe. The last time these two mighty ladies disagreed very bitterly was on the issue of homosexuality and ordination of the first Anglican gay bishop Gene Robinson. At that time Matembe was the state minister for Ethics and Integrity.

After being thrown out of the movement, I find it had to believe that this same Matembe can declare her blind support for The Vagina Monologues! At least Tamale has been consistent on her position. It is clear that this play was authored by a lesbian.

She just seeks to capture wider attention through exploitation of marginalised sections of the population in advancing lesbianism. Matembe herself knows this fact. So what is the twist around her stand for morality, that ‘pastor’ Matembe now even has her own "god" to worship and glorify?

It is not the first time that marginalised groups have been used for shelfish gains. Most post colonial military leaders were brought to power by the blood of the very people they set out to liberate. So, Matemb,e what is the fuss about Vagina Monologues?

I commend the Government for banning this obscene play and call upon the church to preach morality.

Remember one of the key issues that returned president George Bush to power was his stand for morality. It could cost a party votes in Uganda.
