Hip-hop music in Uganda is set to get a big boost with the advent of the Hip-hop Canvass

Hip-hop music in Uganda is set to get a big boost with the advent of the Hip-hop Canvass. A concept conceived by Herbert Mona of GTZ (German Technical Cooperation), the hip-hip Canvass involves getting Ugandan hip-hop artistes together to contribute songs towards a single CD and hold a subsequent concert. The canvass will take place all through April and conclude with a grand finale in May.

The Uganda Hip-hop Foundation, Platinum Entertainment and No End Entertainment are behind the organisation and promotion of the idea while GTZ will sponsor the event.

There is a chance for local artistes who excel to take up record deals with record labels in Germany.

Shadrack Kutesa, director, Platinum Entertainment, says they have already started screening the candidates and auditions are to take place at No End Studios on Mulago Hill off Mawanda Road tomorrow.

“We are going to have a GTZ advisor, Bernd Seifert from Cologne, Germany, over for the auditions. As a sponsor and person involved with the youth in German, he will over look the project,” Kutesa says.
