THE joint East African Community (EAC) military exercise dubbed “Ongoza Njia” was flagged off on Monday in Monduli, Arusha in Tanzania.

Tanzania Defence forces Chief Gen. George Waitara launched the one-week exercise while EAC Secretary General Amanya Mushega attended, a statement said.

On behalf of his Kenyan and Ugandan counterparts, Waitara said the Ongoza Njia was formulated, planned, funded and implemented by the three partner states.

“The success of the exercise will widen and deepen the long-established co-operation among defence forces of the partner states and enhance the process of fast tracking the East African federation,” Waitara said.

Mushega said the exercise aimed at improving the ability of the EAC states to operate together in peace missions within the region.
