KAMPALA — Five students have been dismissed from Makerere University over examination malpractices. The Academic Registrar, Amos Olal-Odur, said the four of the five female students were finalists pursuing Bachelor of Education degrees. The other was a third year student from the Faculty of Social Sciences.

1st graduates
KUMI — Kumi University is holding its first graduation ceremony today at its campus in Nyero. The public relations officer, Millicent Acheng, yesterday said 250 graduands will be awarded degrees, diplomas and certificates. The First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni (below), is expected.

SSEMBABULE — A family of eight has camped at Mateete police post after a mob demolished their house and crops over allegations of witchcraft. District Police chief Alison Agaba said the incident took place on Tuesday in Rwebitakuri sub-county. Gertrude Nakiwala and her family are suspected to have led to the mysterious death of six residents.

LUWEERO — High court sessions initially scheduled to start in the district and in Nakasongola in 2003, have been indefinitely suspended for the second time, after another judge failed to preside over them. MASAKA — The National Environment Managem-ent Authority (NEMA) has listed about 160 structures to be razed from the Nakaiba wetland, including schools. Teachers at Nyendo Muslim Primary School were in panic on Wednesday as prisoners employed to clear crops approached the school.
