THE Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) registration for 2005 exams closes on April 30. The late entry, which attracts a surcharge will be allowed up to May 31.

The board secretary, Matthew Bukenya said in a statement the on going registration includes that for Primary Leaving Examinations, (PLE), the Business and Technical, UJTC, Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).

The statement said PLE registration was being coordinated by the district inspectors of schools.

It said for the other levels, UNEB would deal with the headteachers or principals and not individual candidates.

“Headteachers are the ones who know their candidates. This makes registration more systematic as the number of candidates is big and scattered,” the statement said.

The registration for 2005 June/July business and technical examinations would end on March 15. The late entry registration would close March 31. It said there would be no age limit for candidates taking any of the examinations but cautioned against registration for candidates who had failed.

“Only candidates, who have pursued an ordinary level course or its equivalent, after passing PLE with grades 1,2,3 and 4 only or its equivalent may be registered for UCE examination. Candidates with Grade U at PLE should not register for UCE,” it said.

It also said candidates who had pursued an advanced level course of at least two years after obtaining the UCE, with credit passes in at least one subject or at least two passes at grade 7 or at least three passes at Grade 8 or an equivalent qualification would be registered for UACE examination. “Candidates with result 7 or 9 should not register for UACE,” it said.
