THE fear factor is at play, and has started gripping American boxers as IBF junior middleweight champion Kassim “The President” Ouma chooses his opponents.

Ouma has now decided to make his second defence in Melbourne, Australia on April 30. He takes on IBF Pan Pacific champion, 32-year-old Shannan “Bulli Blaster” Taylor.

His impressive defence against Kofi Jantuah in January made most boxing promoters raise their eyebrows, and they will now not risk their talent.

With WBC stripping Winky Wright of his crown and handing it to Spaniard Javier Castillejo, it is uncertain when he will unify the 154 division.

It will be the first time that the Florida-based Ugandan fights outside the United States.

Ouma is coming off an impressive defence against Kofi Jantuah in January and now faces a stiffer challenge from Taylor, who goes into this fight with an impressive 42 wins, three loses, two draws, with 28 within the distance.

Last year, Taylor put his fringe title on the line to fight South paw Ouma, but his camp turned down the offer waiting for the big fight which they got in October when he fought Verno Phillips. Phillips, then IBF champion, fell to Ouma on points.

Ouma has 21 wins 1 loss 1 draw.
Taylor has mixed in with the big boys too and in 2001 he lost to then WBC Super welterweight champion Shane “Sugar” Mosley.
