Break the silence on girl child sexual abuse!

SIR—I was saddened by the story on March 1 about Mbekeka who was sexually abused by her father.

SIR—I was saddened by the story on March 1 about Mbekeka who was sexually abused by her father.

The numerous abortions she went through and the trauma she is facing. Physically, mentally, socially and emotionally she will never be the same but as Sarah Mukasa of Akina Mama wa Afrika asked, how are these girls assisted by the law enforcement agencies?

The rate of sexual abuse amongst the girl child is on the rise and I think the time to break the silence is now. So a question arises, is it the right time to talk about sexuality in our schools and workplaces?

A story is told of a lady who having been sexually abused by her father spent most of her life running because her father wanted to kill her lest she told anybody about it and she still is. I think the time to break the silence is now. We have to put such perpetrators behind bars. I hope we never have another Mbekeka’s father in our midst.
