<b>Six arrested</b><br>six suspects have been arrested over harassing people and theft.<br>Paul Isabirye, Moses Isakwa, Sam Mayanja, Ramadhan Sajjabi, Sula Kiyimba and Maliki Mugozi were arrested from Mbikko in Mukono district by the Violent Crime Crack Unit (VCCU).

Six arrested
six suspects have been arrested over harassing people and theft.
Paul Isabirye, Moses Isakwa, Sam Mayanja, Ramadhan Sajjabi, Sula Kiyimba and Maliki Mugozi were arrested from Mbikko in Mukono district by the Violent Crime Crack Unit (VCCU). VCCU commander David Magara cautioned the public to watch out for impostors.

Defiler jailed
A resident of Luweero has been jailed for 18 years for defilement.
Asuman Semunga received the ruling yesterday from High Court judge Justice John Bosco Katutsi.
The prosecutor said Semunga committed the offence on February 5, 2004 in Busiika-Kalangala in Luweero district.

AU calls MPs
THE African Union (AU)has invited MPs from Karamoja to a two-day inter-governmental peace workshop in Kenya, Dodoth MP Ael Ark Lodou has said.
He said the workshop is to enhance administrators’ support of the community initiatives in conflict management in Karamoja. It will also forge a way forward on improving conflict management in the region.

Women meet
WOMEN activists want the proposed constitutional amendments to reduce the male dominance and cater for women interests in governance, politics, justice, and human rights.
They said this in a workshop at Hotel Equatoria, Kampala yesterday.
Moyo MP Mindra Yoyo said the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2005 was devoid of key issues women hold dear.

Japan to give
JAPAN is to donate sh236m to three NGOs to implement development projects in their districts.
The embassy charge d’Affaires, Yoshitaka Kitazawa, identified the beneficiaries as Kakiri-based Voluntary Action for Development (Wakiso) Bungokho-based Found-ation for Development of Needy Communities (Mbale) and Teso Aids Project in Soroti.

Skull case
A NATIVE doctor who was found with a human skull was yesterday charged in a KCC court.
Haruna Mpungu, 48, of Kisenyi zone 1 kamwokya central appeared before Buganda Road Court and denied denied the charge of hindering burial, saying the skull was for his son Kafumbe, who died 10 years ago. Mpungu was remanded in Luzira Prison.

Court orders
BUGANDA road court has issued an arrest warrant for 44 out 118 Makerere University students charged with unlawful assembly and rioting.
The Chief Magistrate, Margaret Tibulya, issued the warrant after prosecution reported that the students had not turned up in court for the hearing.

Boy dies
The Police in Kabale are holding a Local Defence Unit guard whose hand-grenade killed his son and injured another at Kashaki cell in Bubare sub-county.
The Police said the grenade exploded while Tusigwire Kazimire’s children played with it on Tuesday.

Artiste sued
A Kampala businessman is suing Eagles production Band member Joseph Semanjo for failure to pay back his money
Prosecution said on March 8, 2003, Umaru Katende of Rubaga paid Semanjo for a performance that did not take off.

Thief loses
THE Fort Portal High Court has dismissed an appeal by the Kagadi Modern Secondary School headteacher who was convicted of theft.
Julius Byaruhanga, 33, had earlier been sentenced to eight years in jail by a grade one court, over 11 counts of theft.
Prosecution told court that in April 2002, Byaruhanga collected over sh500,000 from students to register them for UNEB examinations but diverted the money.

3rd term
PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni got the third term during the drafting of the 1995 Constitution, Makerere University movement youths have said.
Their chairman, Adam Luzindana, on Wednesday said there was no need to waste time agitating for a third term.
“The constitution limits the president to two terms but it goes ahead to say that Article 105(2) can be amended by two thirds of the MPs,” he said, noting that the Movement caucus has 240 MPs, above two thirds.

Fee scrapped
SOROTI municipal council has scrapped boda-boda fees following the President’s directive.
The council had been charging sh200 per day. However, mayor George Egunyu yesterday said the cyclists would still pay an annual licence fee.

Mayor guns
KABAROLE — Fort Portal mayor Adson Asaba has said his area needs an MP who can withstand political influence. He said he was ready for such a challenge and was ready to take on the current MP. “I will stand because I see gaps in the representation of the Municipality in Parliament, which needs people who can withstand bribery,” he said. Asaba was speaking at his office on Wednesday.

MP accused
KAMPALA — Bugwere MP Abdu Katuntu is to defend himself today against allegations of professional misconduct and taking a client’s money. Katuntu was accused before the Law Council by Henry Mirima, of failing to represent him in an appeal case despite getting paid for it.
