AS the preliminaries of the Bell Lager national league come to an end, champions MTN Heathens will aim at staying on top of the table ahead of the semifinals next week.

Heathens currently with 16 points, two clear of close rivals Mango Kobs, will lock horns with charging LG Rhinos in their last tie of the preliminaries at Kampala Rugby Union ground today.

LG Rhinos has shown marked improvement in their skills considering their 21-8 victory against fancied Black Pirates and 18-8 triumph against Buffaloes in their previous matches.

Mango Kobs are expected to find minimal resistance against Hima Impis that was humiliated 6-24 by Heathens in their last match.

Black Pirates and Hima Impis will be struggling for a fourth slot to make it to the semi-final of the league.

Meanwhile, Uganda Rugby Football Union (URFU) has summoned 38 players to start preparations for the 2007 World Cup qualifiers and the Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) Top Nine championships that start in June.

The squad, composed of experienced players and a few newcomers, met for a briefing by national coach Yayiro Kasasa at Kyadondo Rugby Club yesterday.
