Uganda will start her ICC Trophy (mini world cup) in Ireland by playing Denmark on July 1.

The World Cup 2007 qualifiers were launched by international cricket governing body boss Malcolm Speed on Thursday.

The eighth edition of the competition will see 42 matches held at 25 venues across northern and southern Ireland. The tournament will open with six matches on July 1 and conclude with the final at Clontarf on July 13.

Uganda, one of 12 countries taking part and fighting for one of the five slots to the 2007 World Cup in West Indies, will after the Denmark tie in Belfast on July 1, take on the hosts Ireland the following day.

Uganda will also automatically qualify to benefit from the ICC High Performance programme if they emerge one of the five from the competition to make it to the world cup in West Indies.

Holders Holland are also taking part. Namibia is the other African country at the tournament.

Meanwhile, the national cricket team resume action after one week of resting with a trial match at the new Lugogo grass wicket today.

The squad is in intensive training ahead of the World Cup qualifiers and have had chance to test three established foreign teams from England.

The national team showed some improvement with the bat and ball during the three matches played against UK-based visiting Marylebone CC that was here for 12 days.

Uganda will also play against Kenya April 22-24 in the three-day International Cricket Council (ICC) regional tie at Lugogo oval.
