THE Electoral Commission (EC) will extend the period to update registers and registration of voters.

Justice and constitut-ional affairs state minister Adolf Mwesigye told Parliament yesterday that the exercise which expires on March 21, would get three more days.

The extension came after Lule Mayiya’s (Kalungu East) motion to compel an extension of one week was shot down by the Prime Minister Prof. Apolo Nsibambi.

Nsibambi said Lule was out of order because his motion was in contravention of Article 93 of the Constitution which states that any motion imposing a charge on the consolidated fund should be moved by the Executive.

Theodore Ssekikubo (Lwemiyaga) said in his constituency, the exercise had not started.

Rose Senninde and Patrick Ochieng (Bukholi South) said the time allotted for the exercise was too short because their areas with islands, were hard to access.

Margaret Baba Diri (PWDs - Northern) said PWDs had been left out of the exercise.
