Olympian Jolly Katongole survived a scare from Naguru’s Mohammed Kaboggoza as he battled to win the Zone V national trials at Lugogo on Sunday.

The Naguru sensation went on attack from the first bell and kept light-fly Katongole on the back foot. The Olympian however landed some clean punches that swayed the verdict 2-1 in his favour.

“The problem is that I was called at short notice. I did not have enough training,” a breathless Katongole explained.

Twenty boxers have been called to camp for next month’s Africa Zone V contest in Nairobi that will also be a qualifier for the Africa Championship in Morocco. The other Olympian Sadat Tebazalwa did not weigh-in because of illness.
