FORMER national champion Deo Akope who missed the Western Open a fortnight ago hopes to close the gap in the Kigezi-Crane Bank Open golf tournament that tees off in Kabale today.

Akope, looking to post his maiden points in the Uganda Golf Union (UGU) stroke-play championship yesterday said he was determined to win the 36-hole tournament to keep pace with his rivals.

“I want to catch up early in the season. I need to win one or two tournaments,” Akope said. The Kabale Golf Club organised event is the second of 20 stroke-play events on the UGU calendar.
However, Akope said that the tight course situated on a hill poses a big challenge.

Golfers from Rwanda led by Stephen Katwiremu will also compete in the tournament sponsored by Crane Bank.
