What is the big deal about private parts?

SIR — I do not agree with Lilliane Barenzi’s argument that the suffering of Martin Otim, a hydrocoele patient, has been highlighted at the expense of thousands of women in what she calls “glorifying the male genitalia”.

SIR — I do not agree with Lilliane Barenzi’s argument that the suffering of Martin Otim, a hydrocoele patient, has been highlighted at the expense of thousands of women in what she calls “glorifying the male genitalia”. I don’t remember her commenting on the nude woman whose picture was published in The Monitor a few years ago. The woman’s private parts were being shaved by army officers. What happened with the Vagina monologues play was a result of Government’s “selective” effort to avoid what it considers immorality but other newspapers go on to publish pictures of nude women.
My fear is that the Vagina monologues which fortunately was banned has created a situation where women feel their private parts are not given enough attention in comparison to the men’s! What is the big deal about private parts today? Some issues including medical anomalies could make it to the front page regardless of sex or newsworthiness.
I hope Barenzi is not complaining that the vagina is getting to the front page less often!
