KAMPALA — Over 75% of Ugandans use paraffin candles (tadooba) for lighting, a principal statistician has said. Hellen Nviiri Namirembe said results of the 2002 population census showed that access to electricity was still low with only 7% of households using electricity to light their houses. She was speaking at a media workshop at Hotel Equatorial on Wednesday.

KAMPALA — The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has published a handbook to guide the public on how to access services from the Justice Law and Order Sector. The JSC secretary, Vincent Rubarema, said on Monday the handbook would address the roles of the JSC and the workings of the judicial service.

Two held
MUKONO — The Grade Two magistrate has committed two men to the High Court over defilement. Prosecution said Rashid Muwanga of Kyampisi sub-county and Godfrey Okumu of Seeta town defiled two girls between August and November 2004.

MUKONO — The district recently gave out tsetse fly nets worth sh13m to islanders of Koome and Buvuma to fight sleeping sickness.
