COMMONWEALTH Secretary General Don McKinnon arrives here tomorrow for a two-day visit.

Uganda is expected to host the 2007 Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM), which is usually attended by one third of the world leaders including Queen Elizabeth II, the head of the Commonwealth.

McKinnon will meet President Yoweri Museveni to discuss the country’s successful experiences in fighting HIV/AIDS, preparations for the CHOGM in Malta later this year, Commonwealth development programmes and the progress of the Doha Development Round of trade negotiations.

On Thursday, McKinnon will give a public lecture at Makerere University on the partnership between Africa and the Commonwealth. A statement from the Commonwealth Secretariat in London said McKinnon would highlight the Commonwealth’s wide-ranging engagement with its African members, including efforts to promote good governance and sustainable development.

McKinnon’s tour of east and southern Africa took him to Malawi and Kenya, where he met Presidents Bingu wa Mutharika and Mwai Kibaki.
