Kenya’s hottest female DJs Lil Mo, (Monali Shah) 23, and DJ Eel, (Stella Mbugua) 24 of Home Boyz entertainment fired up their Ugandan counterparts with a few dee jaying lessons. High class patrons twisted, twirled, and jumped the Rouge.

Like true ‘queens of the turntables’, their skills in a predominantly male profession, never went unnoticed. They created an explosive atmosphere, remixing and juggling bhangra, techno, dance hall, hip hop and East African flava. Their dazzling performance not only left the crowd active, but also kept them till morning.

Monali shah (DJ- Lil Mo) and Stella Mbugua (DJ Eel) both graduates from the Kenya-based Sprite HomeBoyz DJ Academy, the first professional DJ school in Africa, have no qualms about the profession they chose. “We both had a passion for music and we took advantage of the DJ courses at the new equipped facility. Our dream was to be different, not just to ‘organise noise’, but to ensure that the people kept dancing and bobbing their heads. We wanted to keep the crowd going,” Shah says.

She adds that their secret is being innovative, dynamic, reliable and ambitious, all of which have garnered them a reputation and a huge and perpetually growing fan base. It has seen them change the face of Deejay-ing in Kenya, and now Uganda.

Shah, who has been a DJ for six years, says Ugandan DJs thought they were also equally up to the task. However, she adds that only an expert and a professional DJ would tell them that they were not.
