A bodaboda cyclist is among six candidates remaining out of 13 aspirants for the Mbarara municipality parliamentary by-elections.

The developments follow two meetings between the mainly Movement aspirants and President Yoweri Museveni.

The first meeting was held at the President’s home in Rwakitura on Friday while another one took place at State House, Nakasero on Sunday.

Those left in the race are John Kigyagi, who is also the Kamwenge RDC, Nick Kashaija, the DHL country marketing manager and Darious Magara, a New Vision freelance journalist.

Others are Jotham Mugarura, the head of legal affairs at the Movement Secretariat, Evans Kabateraine, a resident of Mbarara town and Lawrence Kusemererwa, a bodaboda rider.
Nominations begin today and end tomorrow.

During the meeting at Rwakitura, two of the candidates, Kaweesa Ssebuuma and Rhoda Tumusiime, stood down.

More Movement candidates later withdrew from the race. They include Capt. David Bashaija, Mohammed Menya, Didus Mushabe and Ben Makaaru.

The Mbarara Municipa-lity seat fell vacant after Winnie Byanyima resigned to take up a job based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
