Uganda team ready to defend Kenya title

THE National Badminton team of six players left for the International Badminton Federation (IBF) sanctioned Kenya International championships yesterday.

They are expected to start their title defence in the knockout event against Mauritius, Botswana, Seychelles, Nigeria, Zambia and the hosts Kenya in the three-day event at the Aga Khan hall in Mombasa tomorrow.

The team left by Scandinavian Express bus sounding confident to retain the title they won before the annual competition stalled three years ago.

“We are going to compete and we want to win since it is a ranking event,” player Hamza Kwisaba said before boarding the bus.

The Kenyan international competition is also a points awarding event for any win by participating countries affiliated to IBF.

Led by Andrew Oryada other players include top gun Edwin Ekiring, Kwisaba, Ivan Karimunda Abraham Wegute, Gilbert Ofuyuru and the women Ritah Namusisi, Fiona Ssozi and Faith Kebirungi.
Coach Simon Mugabi, who left for an IBF course a week earlier, will receive them in Mombasa.
