THE Police anti-narcotics unit on Monday arrested a suspected drug trafficker who later passed out 54 pellets of heroin worth sh27m.

Following a tip-off, the officers pounced on Lawrence Lukwago, a businessman at Entebbe International Airport as he disembarked from an Emirates flight.

The 35-year-old man, a resident of Kamwanyi zone, who had swallowed the pellets weighing slightly more than half a kilogramme, had boarded the plane from Tehran in Iran and flown to Entebbe, via Dubai and Nairobi.

Anti-narcotics chief Pearson Barasha yesterday said Lukwago had earlier travelled to Tehran on April 14.

He said upon arrest, Lukwago was put under observation where he defecated the pellets at intervals.
Barasha said lukwago would appear in court today charged with possessing narcotic drugs.

Each pellet weighs about 10 grammes, bringing the total weight to 540 gram-mes, the Police said.
Lukwago was paraded at the CID headquarters where the pellets were displayed.

He lost his cool as photographers took his pictures.
