CANDIDATES for the 896 university scholarships to be awarded annually under the district quota system, will be selected by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) and not by district administrators.

Education minister Geraldine Bitamazire was clarifying on speculation that local councils would select candidates for the scholarships.

“The top 16 are to be sorted out by UNEB not the LCs,” she told the weekly Cabinet press briefing yesterday.

"The quota system, which is allocated 1,000 scholarships, covers districts, sportsmen and women (40) and people with disabilities (64).

Priority for the district quotas will be given to students originating from districts who sat their exams in those particular districts.
