FLAGS at the South African High Commission are flying at halfmast today, following the death of the High Commissioner, Bavumile Vilakazi.

A condolence book was put at the commission offices on plot 15A Nakasero road.

Vilakazi died of heart attack on Thursday as he was returning from Entebbe Airport, where he had gone to receive a visiting delegate.
He was rushed to Entebbe Grade A Hospital, where he died.

The first administrative secretary at the High Commission, T. J. Vermaak, said they had informed the South African government for burial arrangements.

Vermaak said Vilakazi had since Wednesday been staying with South African Vice-President Jacob Zuma at Imperial Botanical Beach Hotel, ahead of the heads of state summit on Burundi.
He praised Vilakazi as a diplomat of outstanding excellence.

Vilakazi came to Uganda in April 2002 from Ekhurhuleni, South Africa where he was mayor.
He is survived by two sons and a wife.
