VETERANS in Hoima district have vowed to reject the National Resistance Movement Organisation over failure by the government officials to give them their gratuity and retirement benefits.
They said they would support the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC).
In a memorandum to the Uganda Veterans association Board, executive secretary Maj. Gen. Emilio Mondo condemned district officials for stopping them from meeting the President to address their grievances.
“We have decided to support Mugisha Muntu and his party (FDC), because we have not been considered by the current government. The little we were promised landed in the hands of non-veterans,” the statement said.
Omondo presided over the election of the district veterans’ chairperson, Mesarch Bategeka.
The veterans complained that they did not receive the property sent to them by the Government.
They said they did not get the 300 iron sheets from the Uganda veterans association, 10 million from the President’s Office, motorcycles and oxen. They also accused district local authorities of selling their plots.
