A Ugandan Police officer was last Wednesday shot dead in Kenya as he pursued Kenyan Pokot warriors who had raided cattle from Kapchorwa district.
Joseph Emenyu, the in-charge of the Mobile Police Patrol Unit at Kaptari detach in Muimet parish, Kapchorwa, was killed near Chepchoina, 5km inside Kenya.
The eastern regional Police commander, Bob Ngobi, on Friday said Emenyu’s body was taken to Kitale in Kenya.
“We are waiting to receive the body,” Ngobi said after returning from the border.
He said Emenyu’s unit had joined the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, home guards and a group of civilians to pursue the Pokot, who had stolen over 60 head of cattle from Kaptari village.
“They pursued the cows until they crossed the border. They then retreated when it became difficult to recover the animals. It was then that the group realised that Emenyu was missing,” Ngobi said.
The commanding officer of Transnzoia police division in Kenya, Augustine Kimantiria, said, “We are waiting for our counterparts from Uganda so that we carry out a joint postmortem before the body is taken back to Uganda.”
