Sanaa Gateja, Uganda’s multidisciplinary artist will on Tuesday April 26, have his exhibition opened at Alliance Française at 6.00pm. The exhibition, which will last for one month will comprise paintings that provoke feelings of wonder, bark cloth wear, jewellery, tapestries, music and much more.
The originality and fascinating techniques combine to engage and transport the viewer into a world of contemporary Ugandan art today. Gateja is a jewellery designer in precious materials, but for many years he has chosen to express himself through paintings of mixed materials.
He founded Kwetu Africa, an appropriate technology centre based in Lubowa, opposite Lincoln International School on Entebbe road, where he trains in skills and produces original art and designs.
He has recently been working in the fashion world, combining art with the human body.
