Rebels killed
KITGUM — Ten Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels were on Friday killed by UPDF soldiers in two separate battles in Kitgum district. “The rebels, believed to be under Lakati and Opio Makasi, were this morning hit by our forces,” the regional army spokesman, Lt. Tabaro Kiconco, said in a statement on Friday. Tabaro said Makasi’s group was hit in the thickets of Lalak hills. He said three guns, three magazines and bullets were recovered from the group. Another group led by Lakati was intercepted by the 9th and 405 battalion west of Ngom-oromo.

LCs wanted
KAMPALA — Three Nsambya West LC officials are wanted by the police in connection with the death of two men. Henry Muwanga, Chancy Globins and Jafer Nsubi, who are on the run, reportedly beat Umar Mugalu and Robert Mukongo to death for moving at night.

Crowd stops
MASAKA — Over 300 residents of Lukaya intercepted President Yoweri Museveni and asked him to confirm to them whether he will stand in the 2006 presidential elections. Museveni was returning from Kitovu on Sunday.
