EMMANUEL Balyejusa and Robert Ssentongo struck against Atletico Olympique of Burundi in either half to put SC Villa through to the semifinals of the CECAFA club championships here yesterday.
Midfielder Balyejusa gave Villa the lead with a powerful shot from outside the 18-yard area 12 minutes into the game under sweltering temperatures.
Villa's opener came after a seventh minute scare that saw goalkeeper Denis Onyango save a close range shot from Atletico's Christain Ndihimana.
After restart, Samadu Mutumba hit the post after 54 minutes before Ssentongo put Villa's semifinals qualification beyond doubt in the 68th minute. Ssentongo easily tapped in after a defensive blunder saw the ball float to his foot.
Villa coach Sam Timbe praised his boys after the match. “I am happy the boys followed my instructions and we managed to get the kind of result we wanted. I will talk about the semis when we know our opponent.â€
Villa will face either defending champion APR of Rwanda or Mtibwa depending on the result of the APR-Mtibwa match today.
Tomorrow is rest day and the first semifinal is scheduled for Wednesday.
The winner of the tournament will take home $30000 (sh54m), the second and third will settle for $20,000 (sh36m) and $10000 (sh18m) respectively.
