KAMPALA resident district commissioner Dr Stanley Kinyatta has denied press reports that his office was collecting taxes from bodaboda cyclists.

He accused Kampala City Council of trying to cover-up the mess they are involved in of collecting illegal taxes and harassment of traders.

He was recently addressing the press at his office.

“It has never been our duty to collect taxes. I want to inform the public that neither of my assistants is interfering in the collection of taxes in any division,” Kinyatta said.

Flanked by his assistants, Mpimbaza Hashaka (Nakawa), Fred Bamwine (Rubaga) and Joyce Rugasa (Central), Kinyatta said, “We are the government’s eye and our role as RDCs is to monitor the central government and local government funds.”
