DENNIS Anguyo is burning to win the Kinyara golf Open this weekend. The uganda telecom sponsored Anguyo who painfully lost the Lugazi Open title to Deo Akope through a playoff last month, has vowed to avenge his defeat in Masindi this weekend.

The 36-hole tournament will be played on the highly competitive stroke-play format.

“I came very close to winning my first tournament but Akope snatched it. I have been training very hard and I must do my best to win this time,” Anguyo said.

However, Anguyo who is fifth in the Uganda Golf Union (UGU) standings admitted Akope would be a difficult man to beat on the par-71 course.

“The greens are small and Akope knows the course so well. To compete well with him I have to practice on it on Friday,” Anguyo said.

Anguyo singled out Akope as top challenger but Charles Yokwe, Amos Kamya, Godfrey Mande and championship leader Stephen Kasaija are worthy keeping an eye on.

Kasaija, a scratch player, had gathered maximum points after winning the President's Cup, Crane Kigezi Open and the Western Open but slipped during his appearance in the Lugazi course.

Kinyara club captain Tile-Ayaa, said not more than 100 players will compete. “This is the number we can accommodate comfortably,” Ayaa said.

A Ugandan living in Zimbabwe Nelson Okwanga, h/c 9, and a Kenyan James Muguiyi have joined the fray.

The event, the fifth tournament on the UGU calendar, was launched last week with sponsors United Assurance handed over sh16m.
