Parliament yesterday held a special session to pay tribute to Busiro South MP Patrick Musisi and many blamed the endless disunity in DP for his death.

Musisi died on Wednesday night after attending the plenary at Parliament, a day before DP factions were due to reconcile.

Kikungwe (Kyaddondo South) moved the motion that Parliament resolves to collectively mourn Musisi and express unbounded admiration for his service and virtues.

Kikungwe said Musisi was honest, never selfish and religious. “He had indicated his intention to take over the leadership of the party and those who were champions of fighting him are now saying he had potential,” Kikungwe said.

Prime Minister Prof. Apolo Nsibambi described Musisi as “a reconciler” who laboured to unite the different factions in DP.

“When political parties are fragmented, they cease to organise along issues and organise along personalities,” Nsibambi said.

He said fragmentation among political parties causes instability like in 1966 when UPC suffered acute fragmentation leading to the 1966 crisis, when its leader used the army to suppress another faction.

He said although he did not agree with Musisi politically, “I admired his political predictability.”

Norbert Mao (Gulu Municipality) said the unity in grief of people from all political opinion captured Musisi’s non-combative politics.

He said the MP struggled for DP factions to unite and the only honour the beleaguered party should bestow on him is to embrace unity.

“His death should put to shame the warring parties in DP. In fact, they have contributed to the stress that finally contributed to the death of Patrick Musisi,” Mao said.

DP chief Paul Ssemogerere and other party officials were absent.

Mao lamented that DP’s dirty linen is all over the city and even the people the party is supposed to oppose like President Yoweri Museveni and exiled UPC leaders, Dr Milton Obote are offering the party counsel.
