Women swimmers shatter records

Aya Nakitanda, Natasha Ratter and Nisha Gregory set new records in different races at the first major swimming competition of the year at International School of Uganda at Lubowa on Saturday.

Nakitanda rewrote her 200 meters record setting a mark of three minutes 29.39 seconds, beating the old mark of 3:40.33 at the Uganda Swimming Federation meet.

It is a build-up to the World Championships in Montreal in July
She was not done yet setting a new mark in the 100m breaststroke winning in 1:38.14. Alisha Ratter, the previous holder had her 1:40.89 record shattered.

Natasha Ratter, nominee for Swimmer of the Year 2003 broke Lesley Magnay’s 50 metre back stroke of 40.98 by clocking 40.82 and then shattered Magnay’s 100 meters backstroke record of 1:40.04 and rewriting it in a time of 1:32.40.

Gregory broke two records in the 100m and 200m freestyle of Nakitanda. Her new times are 1:13.51 and 2:57.20 respectively.
