STATE minister for sports Charles Bakkabulindi has advised members of the FIFA-appointed normalisation committee to settle down to work instead of stirring more controversy.

He reiterated government’s commitment to cooperate with the committee in order to restore sanity in the game.

“I have read in the media some members are already asking others for accountability. This behaviour will not take us anywhere.

Members should cool down and start work instead of just talking,” Bakkabulindi said at a party to celebrate SC Villa’s victory at the CECAFA club championship in Mwanza early this month.

The gala was held at Little Flowers on Sunday.

Bakkabulindi hailed Villa’s triumph, saying it was a win for the whole country. He praised the club’s leadership and discipline among the fans.

Minister Namirembe Bitamazire who was guest of honour underscored the role sports plays in society and hence the need for good management of the sector.

“We Ugandans are full of stress and we need sports, especially football, to fight it. That is why we need good administration and management of football in the country,” she said.

SC Villa president Franco Mugabe asked for the soccer playing clubs, and not district sports officials, to play a bigger role in soccer administration.

“Somebody from Karamoja where there is no football to come to the FUFA assembly and make decisions on the game is unfair.

Clubs should be given more say in choosing football administrators in the country,” Mugabe pleaded.

FUFA committee chairman Dr. James Sekajugo, members John Mutenda and Edgar Watson, KCC’s Dr. Hasib Takuba, Victor’s Col. Jackson Bell and leading Villa fans including Maj.Gen James Kazini attended the party.
