WHEN Baganda wear banana fibre and barkcloth, they are in mourning. And so were scores of Baganda on Tuesday, as they marched from Mengo to Kasubi tombs, to mark the 1966 attack on Bulange.

It is 39 years since former president Milton Obote forced Kabaka Frederick Muteesa II into exile.

After his death in 1969 in Britain, Muteesa’s remains were returned and buried at Kasubi tombs after former President Idi Amin took power in 1971.

The ‘Bazzukulu Ba Buganda’ (Buganda’s grandchildren) organised the procession that started at 11:30am.

At the 120-year-old Kasubi tombs, the marchers prostrated before princess Beatrice Namikka and vowed to support the Kabaka, Ronald Mutebi.

Namikka said, “We remember this because we want to remind those in power not to repeat the same mistake.”
