SOLDIERS of the 601 Brigade in Patongo sub-county, Pader district have been banned from drinking with civilians while in military uniforms.

Brigade commander Lt. Col. David Kabagira said recently that soldiers who drink with civilians while in military uniforms mar the relationship between the army and the civilian population.

Kabagira said the ban was effected due to some cases reported by the civilians that soldiers leave without paying for the booze.

“I have told the civilians here to report any soldier found drinking in military wear. Because I believe in working relationships with the civilians, I will not tolerate any act of hooliganism being practised by a soldier in military attire,” Kabagira said.

He said the relationship between civilians and his brigade had improved following the ban.

Kabagira said LRA rebel hideouts in the area had been destroyed.
