MOBILE telecommunications company Celtel Uganda celebrated 10 years in the country by declaring its commitment to invest more to make customers’ lives better.

Launched in 1995 in Uganda, Celtel has grown to become the only pan-African telecommunications company with operations in 13 African countries.

“We were bought by a Kuwait company, MTC. There will be lots of money flowing into the continent for more investments.

This industry will get more interesting,” Marten Pieters, the chief executive officer of Celtel International, said at Kabira Country Club in Kampala.

Celtel Uganda chairman James Mulwana said, “Taxes on mobile are higher than those on fixed lines. This is a major hindrance to us.”

Prime Minister, Prof Apolo Nsibambi, said despite the numerous challenges, Celtel had continued to excel.
