Hoima district chairman George Tinkamanyire has rejected President Yoweri Museveni’s appointment as the district NRM interim committee vice-chairperson, citing political intrigue by some NRM bigwigs.
Tinkamanyire on Friday said appointing him a vice-chairperson in a district he heads was a ploy to decampaign him.
He accused some government officials of manipulating the appointment of NRM committee members for their “individual political interests” and to undermine him.
In his letter to the National Political commissar, Dr. Crispus kiyonga, Tinkamanyire said the post of vice-chairperson was only created in the district to squeeze him on the committee.
The district NRM interim committee is headed by the Hoima mayor, David Maxwell Kaboyo.
Tinkamanyire said he rejected the post following reports that Kaboyo was planning to contest for the LC5 seat in the 2006 elections.
“To appoint me vice-chairman in Hoima is like appointing a rival to act as a bestman on a wedding party of a girl we have been competing for,” he said in apparent reference to Kaboyo.
Tinkamanyire’s rejection of the post came five days after the inauguration of the district committee by the Masindi Woman MP, Jalia Lukumu Bintu.
He, however, pledged to remain loyal to NRM.
