STEPHEN Kasaija shot a closing 71 to win the Mukwano Golf Open in Fort Portal yesterday.

DFCU Bank sponsored Kasaija, with 142 aggregate in the 36-hole tournament, beat second placed Denis Anguyo by eight strokes to his fifth Uganda Golf Union (UGU) title in seven events.
Kasaija, who opened a 15 points lead in the UGU championship, fancied his chances of becoming 2005 national champion.

“I am now feeling confident about becoming the champion. I don’t think anybody can over take me even if I don’t win more titles,” said Kasaija, who has maintained his winning streak on home course.

Uganda telecom flag bearer Anguyo moved from fifth to second in the UGU championships.

George Olayo (151), Frank Mugisa (153) finished third and fourth respectively in the event played over two days. Amos Kamya was fifth.

Sylvia Kihunde carded 140 net to win the women’s event.
