THE Movement National Executive Committee meeting opening today at Munyonyo, Kampala, is to discuss the proposed regional tier arrangement and other constitutional amendments, the National Political Commissar, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, has said.
About 260 people are expected to attend the meeting that will cost the Government about sh200m, Kiyonga told a press conference at his office in Kampala.
Historical members of the Movement are among the people invited to attend the meeting. They include Eriya Kategaya, Amanya Mushega, Prince Juuko Walugembe, Prof. Badru Katerega and Matthew Rukikaire.
Others are the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the Movement, chairpersons of district Movement conferences, district chairpersons, MPs representing their districts in NEC, women MPs representing women on a regional basis, the NPC and directors at the Movement Secretariat.
Notable among the invited guests is staunch multipartist Makindye east MP Michael Mabikke.
Democratic Party treasurer John Ssebaana Kizito was invited by virtue of his post as Kampala mayor.
Kiyonga said the executive committee of the association of speakers of district councils had been invited. He said even if the regional tier arrangement is passed in Parliament, councils could reject it.
He said former minister Jaberi Bindadi Ssali was not invited because he was not a member of NEC.
Kiyonga said the President would report on how far he has gone with implementation of NEC resolutions as instructed at the end of NEC in 2003.
The meeting will also ratify the President’s appointment of Kirunda Kivejinja and Fabias Byaruhanga to the Movement Secretariat.
Opening up of political space will also be discussed.
