OVER 500 Muslims yesterday thronged Ggaba Islamic Foundation Centre to pray for embattled Brig. Henry Tumukunde.

Sheik Abdu Salaam Mbogo called upon President Museveni to forget about their differences and pardon Tumukunde.

“If he has done anything wrong, I do not think it is more than the good things he has done for this country. We, therefore, pray that the President forgives him so that they iron out the differences,” Mbogo said in Luganda.

Mbogo said the special prayers were because of the freedom Tumukunde brought to the Tabliq sect of the Muslim faith during the time he was the Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI).

“Tumukunde brought a lot of relief among the Muslims during the time of the ADF rebellion and the time terrorism was at its peak in Kampala. While at the International Conference Centre, he brought about the idea of listening to the people who had been arrested. He later found them innocent and set them free unlike those before him.

“We felt it important to organise prayers so that God can help him to go back home and live happily with his family just as he did for many Muslims,” said Mbogo.

Before Tumukunde was appointed CMI chief, many Muslims of the Tabliq sect were detained on suspicion of terrorism or involvement in ADF rebel activities.
