RIYAZ Kurji bears a big task of picking maximum points in this weekend’s Zambia International Rally to keep his Africa Rally Championship (ARC) aspirations alive. Cars will be flagged off this morning for the 400km two-day rally.

Kurji, who described the route as ‘suitable’, downplayed the challenge of the reigning African champion Muna Singh — who is on his home turf.

“Jess Watson is the only one capable of beating us. He is a good driver and knows the route very well. The battle will go down to the last kilometer,” Kurji said on phone from Lusaka.

The Alpha Rally Team crew’s Subaru Impreza group N-10 passed scrutineering yesterday morning and was awaiting a shakedown last evening.

James Himmel, James Whyte and Jimmy Rautenbach are the other top drivers in the fourth round of the ARC series.

Rautenbach is the father of Conrad Rautenbach, who won the Zimbabwe rally.
The rally ends on Sunday.
