BRIGADIER Henry Tumukunde’s petition challenging what he called forced resignation from Parliament starts tomorrow.

Tumukunde’s and government lawyers yesterday met to discuss critical issues ahead of the hearing.
Advocates Emmanuel Twarebireho Tungwako and Oscar Kambona met Robinah Rwakojo from the attorney General’s Chambers before the Court of Appeal Registrar, Joseph Murangira.

Tumukunde is in the Constitutional Court challenging the decision by President Yoweri Museveni, as Commander-in-Chief and some senior UPDF officers, to remove him from Parliament.

He filed an injunction restraining the Electoral Commission, the Attorney General, and the Army Council from replacing him.

Tumukunde said he was forced to write a resignation letter, “and since I was immediately arrested and detained, I was denied the opportunity to explain to the Speaker the circumstances under which the letter was written.”
He said he had not contravened Article 80 of the Constitution to warrant his replacement.
