FOR those who like East African Television (EATL), you may be left with just a month to enjoy it.
The Broadcasting Council (BC) has declined to renew EATL licence for not complying with broadcasting regulations.
BC chairman Godfrey Mutabazi yesterday said the EATL licence expires on July 25.
Mutabazi yesterday said the decision followed meetings between them and EATL bosses.
He added, “Before we issue licences, we must agree on the programme list and it must have a local content and developmental programmes for the targeted society.â€
Mutabazi said the council had since 2003 threatened to cancel the licence because the TV plays music videos for 24 hours without any local or development content.
He said the EATL proprietor, Reginald Mengi, based in Tanzania, says the channel promotes the East African cooperation through youth programmes and dancing.
Roselyne Nyangazi, the EATL local representative, yesterday feigned ignorance of the BC’s decision.
