TORORO — Tororo county residents have opposed a recommendation to have Tororo municipality located in West Budama county while curving a new district from Tororo. In a petition to President Yoweri Museveni, area MP Geoffrey Ekanya said if the President accepts the recommendation, it will negate the establishment of the proposed district.
FDC recruits
MUKONO — The Forum for democratic Change (FDC) has registered 20,000 supporters in the district. FDC district chairman Binaisa Kayitiro said residents joined FDC because they were tired of dictatorship. He dismissed reports that Baganda did not support FDC. He boasted of Kamara Kanamwangi, Sewava Serubiri and Dr. Sulaiman Kiggundu as FDC’s Baganda pillars.
PWDs warned
KAYUNGA — Woman MP Victoria Sebagereka has warned people with disabilities (PWDs) against voting for politicians who do not advance their interests. She said this at a function where she handed over two type writers and a sewing machine to members of Nazigo Akwata Empola disabled people’s association at the district headquarters on Saturday. The donation was a poverty eradication package from the German donors.

KAMPALA — Makerere University is to hold the first annual Global Forum on International cooperation to discuss the challenges African youth are facing. The three-day conference starting July 8, targets the youths. President Yoweri museveni is expected to open the forum. The president of Global Forum International Cooperation, Awel Uwihanganye, yesterday told a press briefing at Café PAP that the youth are key players in global development.

MUKONO — The district chairman, Godfrey Ddamulira, has hailed teachers over their peaceful demonstration. He described it as a ‘manifestation of their constitutional right and a landmark in Uganda’s democratisation process in the movement era’. He was on Saturday addressing teachers who thronged his office opposing the low salary increase.
