OUR Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) badminton player Gloria Najjuka lifted the Picfare Schools’ U-18 girls title against top contender Rose Nakalya (St Lawrence) on Sunday.

Najjuka, formerly playing second fiddle to Nakalya – then her schoolmate – took the game in straight sets 11-3, 11-7. Nakalya was a student at OLGC until early this year when she shifted to St Lawrence.

“She has always beaten me but after the holiday training, I felt confident. I trained with her and discovered her weakness. I perfected my strong points and it has paid off,” said Najjuka, who was mobbed by her schoolmates after the final.

Najjuka had earlier combined with Monica Nakityo to again dispense of Nakalya and Sophia Kinkya (St Lawrence SSS) in the U-18 category.

OLGC U-15 team however failed the test, losing to Mariam High 2-1 in their category.

Monik Solanki’s Aga Khan won the boys’ U-18 title but fell to St. Stephen’s Nebba Byenkya in the individual final in straight sets.
