MOIL Challenge rally event manager Hajji Juma Nkambwe is confident that the third National Rally Championship due Saturday boasts of a competitive field of drivers gifted enough to humiliate favourite Riyaz Kurji.

“The pool of drivers we have registered is just appropriate to make it one of the best competitive events we have had in years.

There is not too much to separate each of the drivers, which is interesting,” Nkambwe said.

Moses Lumala, Dipu Ruparelia and Charles Muhangi are the prominent absentees after failing to confirm participation as per closure time of registration yesterday.

Championship agitators Kurji and Ponsiano Lwakataka, who went reccing through the routes over the weekend, will approach the Moil Gas Company sponsored event with plenty to prove between themselves. The contest through the routes will be far more balanced than the point gap that exists between them.

Kurji leads the NRC standings with 100 points followed by Moses Lumala at 80 while Lwakataka is third with 75 points.

The registered drivers include Mansul Sanya, Frank Lubowa, Godfrey Katende, Abbas Mayinja, Amin Lalani, Bob Robert, Warrant officer Lule, Ben Koyesiga, Isaac Rwakasiita, Kurji, Issa Numba, Vincent Kibude, Lwakataka, Omar Buuma, Ronald Ssebuguzi, Jamal Mustafa and Wycliffe Bukenya.

Firemasters, Hotel Africana, Uhuru executive and CBS FM are the other co-sponsors of the event that starts with a super special stage at Kaazi.

Seven competitive sections will be covered in Kayunga and Mukono Districts.
