PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has fronted three people to oust Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) sympathiser Maj. John Kazoora in the 2006 parliamentary polls for Kashaari county, Mbarara district.

The three include Mbarara district chairman Fred Kamugira.

“Kashaari and Mbarara municipality had for some time been without representatives but now we are on the verge of liberating them. Mbarara has been liberated and we are coming to liberate Kashaari as well,” Museveni said as he officially backed Kamugira, Urban Tibamanya and Witson Rwakanengyere.

“We shall pick from these three movement supporters one strong bull to edge out the so-called Buffalo of Kashaari,” he said.

Tibamanya is a lawyer while Rwakanengyere is the manager of Namboole Stadium.

Museveni was speaking at Kakuukuru in Kashaari at a party at which Miriam Kankunda introduced her husband Annanius Tumukunde to his in-laws in a ceremony locally known as okwarura.

Kankunda is Museveni’s personal secretary, while Tumukunde is his adviser on science and technology.

Kamugira said, “Your Excellence, now that Parliament has quashed the term-limit, the people of Mbarara are prepared to take you to court if you don’t stand in 2006. Very soon, I will be in Parliament to support your programmes.”

Kazoora, a former movement supporter, joined FDC to fight the lifting of the presidential two-term limits, a battle the MP lost on Tuesday.

“This area and in particular this family sacrificed a lot to the movement. They gave me their sons, some of whom died in the struggle that liberated this country,” Museveni said.

He lashed out at those who criticise him for paying school fees for the Luweero orphans. “I get surprised when people say I’m wasting money paying school fees for orphans. Besigye took me to court for paying school fees but I won the case,” he said.

Museveni had earlier addressed a crowd of boda boda cyclists. He bought them a bull in appreciation of their support to the Movement.
