THE swearing-in of the new cabinet marked the beginning of Buyala Junior School’s second term. It was a glamourous occasion in which the children also showed off their talents in music, dance and drama.

The pupils then said goodbye to Vanessa Beyendera and Rashid Kiberu, who were head girl and head boy, and welcomed in the new leaders.

The new head prefects of the school are, Gasuza Musisi and Rachael Nabawanda. 112 students voted for Musisi while Nabawanda got 118 votes.

Electoral Commission chairman Louis Ochola said the elections were democratic, free and fair. “Unlike other schools where teachers sit and choose new leaders, we gave the pupils the opportunity to elect candidates of their choice with out intimidation,” he said.

The headmaster, Bona Kawamara, urged the pupils to build leadership careers. He sais, “There is no permanent enemy and friend in politics.”

Kawamara also urged the pupils to emulate Mai Salim, the former Kenyan pupil who emerged as Mpigi district’s best performer in last year’s PLE with aggregate five.
